Philosophy of Education

Ed & TechI believe strongly in the role that technology can play in enriching peoples’ lives. Coupled with my experiences designing curriculua for a diverse array of learners, I believe I am committed to using technological tools to support critical thinking skills that drives and sustains innovation.

I have real-life experience in supporting learners. The teaching-learning process is best implemented when there is a clear, measurable, goal in mind. With a goal at the center of instruction, I am able to build the scaffolding necessary to help a student reach that goal. Such scaffolding is the result of my ability to take a source of knowledge and break it down so that learners can access, analyze, and internalize content. I readily approach every piece of a curricular unit – from lesson plan to summative assessment – with a sense of duty and respect towards learners. Regardless the student’s age, having content that respects, challenges and rewards intellectual progress is at the core of my educational philosophy.

Over the last eight years, I have dedicated my efforts towards developing curricula for an array of student populations including High School students in the Dominican Republic and Boston and Middle School students in Washington Heights and Harlem. In each position I have successfully managed to integrate technology that transforms curricula and lesson plans.

I have always been curious about technology – specifically the how and why behind the technological advancement and the ways that such technology can transform learning. In my experience, I have let classroom challenges guide my way towards new applications. For example, when faced with behavior management barriers in my middle school classroom, I found and used Class Dojo to create reports on individual student behavior for parents and students. The accountability system I created allowed students to self-assess their behaviors and create goals for progress. Further, I have extensive experience in training others to fully utilize technological applications. I have trained parents and students to use Book Retriever to manage our classroom library and worked to infuse real-time, interactive maps to help students understand the way that geography impacts the plot of a story. I’ve also worked extensively with multi-media presentation tools to create learning and assessment activities for students. I firmly believe that technology is a powerful tool that increases student engagement thereby supporting academic growth and ultimately success. My enthusiastic interest in the intersection of technology and education would certainly make me a valuable asset to your organization.

My ultimate goal is to join a team of diverse colleagues who share my passion for education, technology and are invested in the opportunity of improving the lives of others. I look forward, with excitement, to the opportunity of contributing my experience and talents to an agency with a similar mission.
